There is a little, secret, and super fun playground hidden away in the 19th district in Nussdorf literally off the beaten track. It is not indicated as a green or play space in any map I’ve seen but it’s there….trust me. I have the pictures to prove it!
My son loves all things related to trains so we take the hike up to the playground every now and then. It’s an enclosed playground with a shaded sand area and 3 wooden trains to climb and play on as well as swings and a few other structures. It’s suitable for younger and older kids as older ones might enjoy climbing on top of the train while the younger ones stick to playing inside the structures! There is also a basketball court behind it along the walking paths.
Note that there are no bathrooms close-by (but you’re in the woods!) and also be aware that there are mosquitos and ticks in the summer (there are no warning signs against ticks but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are there being in the woods and all!).
To get there: Take tram D all the way to the end (Beethovengang); make a left when you exit and walk up the hill. Once you reach the street, make a left and keep walking past the little park when the road curves – cross the street there (there is a little creek) and walk along the path (part street, part walking path) – this stretch is called “Zahnradbahnstrasse” (short and sweet name, right?) and you will pass little gardens on your right and houses on your left. Keep on walking and cross Eroicagasse and walk straight ahead until you are literally on a walking path. This will bring you directly to the park (on your right).
