Q. We have a few bags of toys that our girls have outgrown. Where is the best place to donate things like that in Vienna? (Posted 3/19/2013)
A. I like the Carla stores run by Caritas. (Another person responded with the clarification that Carla will accept donations of anything you bring through the door, not just toys.)
A. I donate toys and books that my children have outgrown and are still in good condition to my childrens’ Kindergarten.
Q. My grandmother collects dolls, and I would like to send her a not-too-tacky Austrian doll for Christmas. Has anyone seen some nice dolls in a souvenir shop or toy store lately? (Posted 11/19/2012)
A. We found a very nice toy store at 14-15 Graben called Kober. It had some reasonably priced dolls and teddy bears in trachten that make good gifts. Also, a bunch of insanely expensive Stieff teddy bears. And a whole room full of trains (ditto).
B. Das Spielzeug in the Ringstrassengalerien in the 1st district is a very nice toy store, and carries non-tacky dolls in traditional Austrian clothing.
